Research & Scholarship
Associate Professor at Stanford University and Director of the Mind & Body Lab, Dr. Crum’s research explores how mindsets—core beliefs about the nature of things like stress, exercise, diet, illness, and the body—shape our experiences, behaviors, and even our physiology. Over nearly two decades of research, Dr. Crum has shown that what we believe is not merely a reflection of our lives; it is a driver of what becomes possible.
Her interest in the mind–body connection began early as an athlete and deepened during her training as a clinical and social psychologist. At the Stanford Mind & Body Lab, her team studies how shifting mindsets changes biological processes—altering hormones, metabolic activity, immune response, recovery, and even treatment outcomes. Their work reflects a simple conviction: the mind is not separate from the body; it is a central part of it.
